“But I do not consider my life of any account as dear to myself, so that I may finish my course and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify solemnly of the gospel of the grace of God.”
– Acts 20:24
The words above are the Apostle Paul’s, speaking to church leaders, telling them that he believes his future holds the prospect of being jailed and punished for ministering to churches and teaching the Gospel of Jesus everywhere he went.
We at FBC Branford make this the goal of each of our areas of ministry: lives spent poured out for the Gospel and fulfilling the ministry role the Holy Spirit has given to each believer.
The church, from its inception, has been called to the task of making disciples: lifelong followers of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:18-20). We at FBC Branford hold that the Word of God is the one and only thing needed to change the lives and hearts of men and women into disciples of Jesus Christ (2 Peter 1:2-4). Discipleship is the lifelong process of following our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ – growing to love Him more and to love the things of this world less (Luke 9:23; 14:27-33). It is more than simply reading the Bible, but knowing and applying God’s Word to every aspect of our lives is the unquestioned foundation of discipleship.
To this end, we have numerous opportunities to come and hear and respond to the Truth of the Bible. From Sunday School, weekly Church Services, multiple weekly Bible studies, and Awanas…we attempt to give believers multiple opportunities to come together for the study of God’s Word.
At the same time, we here at FBC Branford are convinced that real discipleship is personal, meaning that real disciples spend private time in the study of God’s Word throughout the week. A personal devotion to reading and applying the Bible throughout the week allows for a more meaningful experience when believers come together to hear from God’s Word.
“Worship” is one of the few words that is used throughout Scripture: from Genesis to Revelation and the Worship of a Holy God is one of the few activities that we know takes place in heaven and will continue into eternity (Revelation 4 and 5). With this in mind, the worship ministry at First Baptist Branford attempts to provide opportunities for the church to come together and worship God in song and service. When we think of worship, we generally think of church services and singing songs of praise. Here at FBC Branford our music ministry blends historical hymns of the church and contemporary songs of praise, drums and violins, high energy choruses and songs of quiet reflection. The goal is not to meet any particular musical taste or preference, but to provide a time when believers can come together in worship of our great God. The music portion of our services builds to that time of worship when God’s people respond to God’s word in obedience and faith.
However, at FBC Branford we are convinced that worship has to mean more than songs we sing or services we attend. Scripture calls believers to worship God with their entire life as a constant personal choice (Romans 12:1). To this end we encourage each believer to join a local church – wherever the Lord leads, be it FBC Branford or elsewhere – and use their talents and gifts to the glory of God and the furthering of His Kingdom (Romans 12). God has uniquely gifted all Christians for service for the common good of the church, as a whole and to individual members (I Corinthians 12). Our desire is to equip members to live out the ministry call God has placed on their lives, for the building up of a unified Church (Ephesians 4:1-7, Romans 15:5-7).
Missions and Outreaches
The command to make disciples (Matthew 28:18-20) included the assumption that God’s people would be going…going to our neighbors, our community, our nation, and our world. To be a follower of Christ means we should expect movement! First Baptist Branford takes the call to spread the Gospel of Jesus seriously at every level. In our own community, we work to meet the physical needs of hurting people – be it food and clothing or hope to those behind prison bars (Matthew 25:34-40). However, we understand our ultimate goal is to meet the most important need of every person, their separation from a loving God of grace (Ephesians 2:1-10).
Each and every believer has been made a minister of the Gospel, with the job of taking the good news of what God has done to the world around us (2 Corinthians 5:17-19). Members of FBC Branford have been faithful to support the ongoing missions work of local organizations as wells as international missions bodies, while also personally going on missions projects to take the Gospel to the world. Our desire is to provide multiple mission opportunities for God’s people to catch the passion of God’s heart for all people (Psalm 98:1-3).
Areas of Ministry
Nursery and Pre-School,
FBC welcomes you and your children to visit with us during any of our weekly services. Nursery is provided for children newborn through age 3 during each service.
Children (Kind. – 5th Grade)
Kids are invited to come and participate in some of our wonderful activities. Every Sunday morning, Sunday School is provided for kids K-2nd grade and 3rd-5th grade in our Christian Life Center during the 9 am hour. FBC offers sports programs, such as EPIC basketball, that mix the satisfaction of sports with the life changing message of the Bible. Vacation Bible School is a week long summer event that packs lots of fun and lots of God’s Word.
Youth (6th -12th Grade)
We desire to make disciples of each student who comes through our doors, meaning a lifelong commitment to Jesus and to the Biblical Church. To this end, FBC Branford is committed to including young people into the greater life of the church. The witness of scripture is that a local church should include various generations working together as one body to minister to the world around us. As we strive to create opportunities for unity in the body, we also accept that there are times and functions that are enjoyed by people of different ages. Teenagers will have the opportunity to worship with their parents and all the saints of the local body, while also enjoying Sunday School, summer camp, bible study and other events geared to teens.
First Baptist Branford desires to strengthen the family, as that which God has given for the proper development of children. This includes a challenge to Father to be men of God and leaders of their families as they grow in godliness and faithful obedience. To this end we seek to offer events that will challenge men with the high requirements of Scriptural Fatherhood. At the same time, there are numerous families of different ages, which has provided a growing fellowship of Mothers who come together for exercise and bible study.
There are numerous opportunities for fellowship and bible study among men and women of every age. From monthly luncheons, weekly Sunday School classes for men and women of various ages, and annual trips and events for different groups, FBC Branford has something you would enjoy being part of.
